Sjoerd Wijnen
Teamleader Sales
From recruitment to leading international sales: Sjoerd Wijnen’s role in expanding MS Gold globally at The Schippers Group.
When you talk to Jorn, you immediately notice how much energy he gets from his work. Not necessarily because of the commercial numbers but mainly because of the trust he builds with his customers and the impact he makes within the international pig industry.
I am not commercially minded by nature. What does drive me is my passion for the sector and the will to really mean something to customers. I don’t sell talk, I sell knowledge, and that is appreciated. Especially at the large integrations I visit, where decisions are important and everything revolves around trust, I can really make a difference. And yes, when I see that my approach leads to the expansion of our products at multiple locations, that gives me genuine satisfaction. For me, that is success.
Pig farming feels like top sport to me. Especially when it comes to sows. It’s like being in a control room with a thousand buttons, where every little adjustment affects the end result. That continuous steering for performance, looking for improvement, solving bottlenecks … that’s in my nature. I don’t want to just ‘do something’, I want to be really good at something. That I can combine that with traveling and at the same time support and help pig farming in other countries makes it extra valuable to me.
Connection is the key to success for me, both with customers and colleagues. I live in De Achterhoek and am on the road a lot, but I find it important to stay involved with the company and the people here. A spontaneous chat in the office can be just as valuable as a big customer visit. Also towards customers, for me it’s about more than just delivering a product. People buy from people. If that click is there, trust is created and that often lasts for years.
I am quite ambitious, maybe sometimes a little too ambitious. I often give 200% and then forget the rest for a while, but I’m learning to balance that better and better. Professionally, I want to continue to grow in dealing with different cultures. Every region has its own way of working. Danes are very direct, Poles are much more formal and hierarchical. I find that game of adapting and still remaining yourself incredibly fascinating.
My pride is not in one striking deal or a nice title, but in constantly growing and developing. I once started in the barn, treating piglets on Saturdays. Now I sit at the table of boards of directors of international integrations. Not because I wanted to be there at all costs, but because I have always continued to do what I liked and wanted to become good at it. And apparently that works.
